Today's Everyday Fashion: The Red Coat

Cooler weather has finally arrived and with it often comes the winter blues - especially now that it gets dark so early! One of my favorite ways to counteract the seasonal shift is by wearing bright, cheerful colors. I passed on buying a bright red coat with gold buttons many years ago, so I was thrilled to catch this one on promo for an amazing price. For my first look with it I added red flats, a red and pink purse and a pink top. Any bold color coat can be a fun addition to a winter wardrobe, whatever shade is your favorite. I shared some more great options below!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Monochromatic Fur

Inspiration: Banana Republic

I've been all about the gray tones lately! And this catalog photo made me realize I could easily put a bunch of them together for a quick outfit. My look includes a rose colored tunic I purchased from the Nicole Paloma boutique during our trip to Destin last month. It's handmade by her and I tied the two sides up into a knot (It's a "sharkbite" shape that also works great over leggings). The gray faux fur scarf is also versatile - it has two hooks so you can wear it both as a shrug around your shoulders or a scarf around your neck. Overall for me though, it's all about the yummy colors in today's look!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Easy Outfit

Inspiration: Snapped with my Phone (her Jacket, Top)

Last week I shared an outfit inspired by a style seminar I did in Destin, and today's inspiration came from the same place! That's Jennie backstage at model fittings in an outfit I was dying to make a reality in my own closet. A $25 turtleneck was all I needed to purchase from Saks Off Fifth. It's a halter-style fit and is backless, which is perfect for warm climates and for ease of layering in general. I'm also very much considering buying the leather jacket she's wearing by Wilsons Leather, as well as some cognac loafers like hers (similar options below). It's such a cute, easy outfit!

Today's Everyday Fashion: NOLA

We're back home after spending the last few days in beautiful New Orleans! I wore this outfit for sightseeing with the hubs. Long sleeve dresses in a midi length are all over stores right now, which I love because they are both incredibly comfortable and pack some serious style punch. Rounding out my look are comfy ankle boots and turquoise fair trade earrings that give the dress even more dramatic flair. It's not everyday that an outfit is this practical AND over-the-top! Are you planning to give long sleeve midi dresses a try this year?

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Plaid Scarf

Inspiration: Gap

Happy Monday! Let's kick off the week with a simple and easy outfit for fall, shall we? This Gap catalog outfit is so cute with the pairing of a camel turtleneck and a plaid scarf. Thankfully my own from 8 years ago is still in great shape, so I could do something similar! Her version looks great tucked in, but my turtleneck was too thick so I skipped the belt. A fedora in a fall color was the perfect finishing touch. It's a classic combo that will never go out of style!

Sweater: H&M, old (similar, similar, similar)
Scarf: Banana Republic, $23 (similar below)
Jeans: Levi's c/o Kohl's, $40

Today's Everyday Fashion: It's the Weekend

A gazillion dancing emojis and a champagne emoji because it's the weekendddddddd! Today's look is a lace trim cami and lace trim skirt I ordered separately but wound up being the perfect match together for a night out. I'm torn on which jacket to wear though. The cape blazer (right) looks better in person than it does in the photos, and the moto vest feels potentially like too much leather for one outfit. Which one would you pick? Or should I go the easy route and wait for a warm enough night to go sans jacket for this look?

Top: Express, $21
Skirt: JCPenney c/o, $50
Blazer: JCPenney c/o, $40
Vest: ModCloth c/o, $60
Purse: Urban Outfitters, $30 (similar)
Shoes: Vince Camuto c/o (samesame)
Necklaces: My Stella & Dot and Forever 21, $4 (similar)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Do What Scares You

Inspiration: Snapped with my phone

The inspiration for today's outfit is... a style seminar I did in Destin a few weeks ago!! (That's one of the models, Evgeniya, backstage during fittings!) Throughout the years I've been asked to "style" runway shows or people for events and I've always turned those gigs down (passed them along to bloggers/stylists I knew would do a great job!) because I didn't feel it was really my thing. The Destin style seminar was my first time "styling," and I agreed to it because I was confident in the program on its own (I usually do it without models), so adding some outfits would be no sweat. To my surprise, I loved (!) going to all the stores, picking out a bunch of items, and making them into outfits. So much so that I wound up putting together 25 looks for the seminar, and wanted to take all of them home for myself! This plaid shirt dress was one of my favorites, so I ordered it online. It's super soft flannel and the length is perfect (is it just me or are shirt dresses always super short?!). Moral of the story: do what challenges you and/or scares you a little. It was a great experience, and I even got a new dress out of it!

Dress: Saks Off 5th, $40
Vest: ModCloth c/o, $60
Shoes: Vince Camuto c/o (same, same)
Purse: Michael Kors/Macy's, $270 (similar)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Folk Vibes

Inspiration: Nordstrom

It just never gets old, guys. You'd think that after 6+ years of blogging it wouldn't be as exciting to discover a new outfit in my closet but I still get just as pumped. I'm like a kid in a candy store with this Nordstrom catalog look that popped up in my email inbox! It's very trendy for fall, and yet most of it is 2-4 years old. All I needed this year to complete the look was a $4 choker and the idea to wear an ivory sweater over a floral slip dress. It doesn't get any better than re-wearing old things in new and exciting ways!!

Sweater: Francesca's, $44 (similar below)
Dress: Forever 21, $18 (similar below)
Boots: ALDO, $199 (similar, similar, similar)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Career Barbie

Inspiration: Elorie via Gilt

There's something about an outfit that's both commanding and feminine. It says "I'm out to shatter glass ceilings while also embracing my softer side" (because the ultimate power suit is about being able to do both, right?). I got the idea to combine this navy boucle jacket, striped top and pop of pink from the catalog photo, and I love how it turned out. I nicknamed it Career Barbie because it's perfectly girlie but also makes me feel like I can conquer the world and achieve whatever I put my mind to!

Jacket: Zara, $90 (similar below)
Top: Forever 21, $20 (similar, similar, similar)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Gray Leather Jackets

Inspiration: Sole Society

Sometimes you stumble upon a catalog photo that bears an uncanny resemblance to items already in your closet. When that happens, save it so you remember to put it together later! (Just like a food recipe; it makes getting dressed SO easy.)  Check out more gray leather jackets on a budget below - this was the #1 item on my wish list this fall. I love the idea of combining the gray-blue tones in the jacket and earrings, with a warmer brown tone in the boots and purse. It's unexpected but it works!

Outdoor Adventuring with Kohl's

Cardigan  /  Sweater  /  Hat  /  Duck Boots  /  Picnic baskets

Ahhh, the great outdoors. There’s literally nowhere else I’d rather be! Whether it’s picnicking in the park, or exercising outside, I’m game for it all. Of course, having the right gear makes an outdoor adventure safer and more comfortable, and when the gear is cute it only adds to the fun.

I put together two head-to-toe looks from Kohls.com for outdoor activities. While shopping for a cold-weather picnic, I discovered that Kohl’s has the cutest collection of picnic baskets (these would make such a great gift!), as well as a great selection of boots and outdoor accessories. (Like my duck Boots, and this cute hat. My ivory sweater and shearing cardigan are also from Kohl’s.)

For a workout in the park, Kohl’s has a huge selection of active wear for women. These lightweight Nike leggings and gray Nike hoodie (below) are great foundation pieces for any active wardrobe, and I love the pops of purple with the EcoVessel water bottle and Nike sneakers. And naturally I’ll need some headphones, because I can’t exercise without beats!

Head on over to Kohl’s to shop these looks, and their entire selection of outdoor gear and exercise equipment for all your upcoming adventures!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Over the Knee Boots

Inspiration: ASOS

Have you ever stumbled upon the perfect outfit, only to find it's sold out?! That's the story with today's inspiration photo. Saw it, immediately wanted the outfit, but the vest was sold out. Thankfully, a quick online search turned up another one that looks super similar. I wore it over all-black just like the inspiration, but switched to over-the-knee boots. We still have a couple months before it's cold enough to wear, but I so appreciate how warm this outfit is while still being stylish! It will be the perfect look for a birthday party or date night with the hubs.

Vest: Amazon c/o, $42
Top: JCPenney c/o, $20
Skirt: JCPenney c/o, $10
Boots: ALDO, $199 (similar below)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Happy Halloween

Truth be told, I'm a bit of a scrooge when it comes to Halloween. I'm completely lazy about getting dressed up and never want to do it! Today's costume was the perfect storm: it was quick, easy and inexpensive to put together, and the cherry on top - I'm able to reuse most of the items again. It's basically this exact outfit post from March, I just added a beret, scarf and suspenders for $27 total. With some white gloves and face paint I could be a mime, or I could go as French painter (the two seem to be closely related; if you Google search costume ideas for each, many of the same images come up). I can even see some prisoner vibes, or the start to a pirate outfit. (In other words, stripes will take you far this Halloween!) I put together more quick and easy costume ideas below. What are your Halloween plans? I'd love to hear/see more easy costume ideas!

Fall Fashion Slay with JCPenney

Top  /  Skirt  /  Boots

JCPenney is absolutely killin’ it with their fall fashion this year! I had a hard time selecting two head-to-toe looks from their website for today's post because there was so much cute stuff to choose from. I managed to narrow it down to this merlot corduroy skirt and floral blouse, paired with brown peep-toe booties. And for my second outfit (below), I chose a black cape blazer with tuxedo trim, faux leather leggings and black pumps. The looks are very different but I love them both equally. It’s a well-balanced style meal of a casual look for daytime and a glammed-up outfit for night!

Which look is more your style?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Casual Pencil Skirt

Inspiration: J.Crew

Today's post is for all you ladies with pencil skirts that only get worn to work. The right pencil skirt can be great for casual occasions, giving you even more options without buying a thing. The inspiration photo pulls off this concept brilliantly with a leopard skirt. I gave it a try by pairing my floral pencil skirt in the same way, with flats and a denim jacket. I also rounded up some plaid shirt dresses on a budget below. I'm in the market and wanted to share my shopping research. I'm leaning towards #3!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Preppy Vibes

Inspiration: J.Crew Factory (and skirt)

Don't have the exact outfit you love from a catalog photo? Don't even sweat it. I don't have a solid gray skirt but this old plaid wool mini was the next best thing. My hubby wasn't too keen on the stripes mixed with plaid but I think that's actually my favorite part. Her pleats add some interest to the outfit, whereas the print on my skirt adds a little sumthin'. (Also, I love mixing prints. Love.) I've been all about J.Crew Factory lately, so I'm sharing more yummy picks for fall/winter below!

Sweater Dress, Two Ways with HSN

No need to adjust your screen - that's really the same dress in both pictures! Any sweater dress makes a great blank slate for fall accessories, but this one in particular (an ivory sweater dress from G by Giuliana at HSN) is special for two reasons. The collar comes off, meaning you can wear it as both a crew neck and turtleneck. And it’s got great fabrication and a loose fit so that nothing shows through like undergarments, lumps or bumps!

I styled it two ways so far (because really, the options are endless). The ivory color pairs well with any plaid scarf you’ve got laying around in your closet, and Steve Madden suede booties from HSN finish off the casual look perfectly. I’ve been on the hunt for booties to replace a similar worn out pair, and I particularly like how pointy the toe is, and where these hit the ankle. (They also come in black.)

In my second outfit, I removed the collar on the dress and paired it with a gray leather jacket from G by Giuliana at HSN. This jacket is super soft and so luxe looking in person! I finished it off with black Vince Camuto peep toe booties from HSN (debuted in my last HSN blog post), and a leopard clutch.

The dress and jacket fit true to size, or even a bit big, (I’m wearing the XS in both.)

Which outfit do you like better?

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Cozy Sweater

Inspiration: Shopbop

Cozy sweaters are synonymous with a fall-winter state of mind. When you're chilled to the bone, running errands in the rain or otherwise adulting when you'd rather be curled up somewhere with a warm beverage and a good book. I bought this sweater (wayyy) back when I lived in Boston, and it's still my cozy go-to today. Certainly, cozy sweaters are more about being warm and comfortable than being stylish, but sometimes the weather or your mood just calls for it!

Sweater: Gap, old (similar below)
Shirt: Mudd, $20 (similarsimilar)
Jeans: A&F c/o (similar, similar, similar)
Boots: boutique c/o (similar, similar)

Today's Everyday Fashion: Old Trends

Inspiration: J.Crew Factory

Do trends ever really go out of style? When I read fashion magazines things seem to move at break neck speed. Sometimes it feels like a trend is declared dead almost immediately after it's introduced. But in the real world, or at least in the retail world, things move much more slowly. This sweater is 4 years old; I even styled it with a polka dot shirt under it 4 years ago. But similar sweaters are still currently in stores, and I would absolutely still wear it. It feels fresh and new this season thanks to a big necklace a la the inspiration photo, and a new pair of red flats!
